The New iPhone 11 - A blog post

The next generation of iPhones are here! On Tuesday the 10thof September as everyone expected Apple announced their new versions of the iPhones. They announced three different models and here I’m going to talk a little more about them and my thoughts. To start, The iPhone 11.

The iPhone 11 is Apples answer to the next generation iPhone XR. Just like the XR the iPhone 11 features a 6.1 Inch “Liquid Retina” Display (LCD). The iPhone 11 comes in 6 different colours. Different to last year however, dropping Blue and Coral and replacing these with Green and Purple.

Unlike the XR the 11 has two cameras, both of these are 12MP. One of them your normal 12MP Wide camera. The same found on last years XR. The second camera is one of Apples newest lenses. 12MP Ultra-Wide Camera. When Apple presented the new camera on their Live video presentation, they showed several shots of the amazing photos that this camera can take. The Photos you take will literally be edge to edge on the iPhone screen.

They mentioned there is a new Portrait lighting effect called High Key Mono if like me you like taking pictures with the Portrait mode I’m sure you’ll love this addition. The next addition
to the camera set-up is the new dark mode. This is a feature which I’m sure many Android users will be saying they’ve had for years, which they have had but now Apple have perfected it. Dark mode can take a picture in almost darkness and perfect the colours and richness of the photo to make the light look natural and bright.

The iPhone 11 has a new front camera as well. It’s now a 12MP TrueDepth camera with 4K video recording up to 60 fps. This means you can make even better-quality FaceTime calls, take better selfies and even record off the front camera in slow motion and create what Apple joked with called “Slofie” (A Slow-motion selfie obviously ðŸ˜‚). The camera app can also do QuickTake which is where if you want to take a video quickly whilst on the “Photo” section of the app you can hold down the shutter button and it will start taking a video. In my opinion this just feels like a feature on snapchat, Not saying it’s a bad feature however I do wonder what happens to taking burst photos.

Just as we expected with every September iPhone event, there’s a new brain to power it. Apple announced the new A13 Bionic Chip with a third-generation Neural engine. Terms of battery it has an extra hour of battery life from the XR and pricing the iPhone 11 is what feels like a fair $699 or if like me you live in the UK its £729 which many are blaming Brexit for.

Now Apple didn’t stop there with all the iPhone drama, they announced the “iPhone 11 Pro” and the “iPhone 11 Pro Max”. My first thoughts on this phone was Christ the back looks very ugly and bulky however when Apple explained themselves, I think the benefits weigh out the ugliness. The obvious main cause of the ugliness is that Third camera. Yes, third camera you read right. The iPhone 11 Pro comes with 3 Cameras, 2 of them are the same as the new cameras on the new iPhone 11 and the third one is a 12MP Ultra-Wide lens. This is the lens for all them awesome depth effect photos.

The iPhone 11 Pro comes with an even better screen, so good in fact that it’s got a new name that is similar to their Mac Pro Monitors. The screen is a 5.8 inch (or 6.5 inch for the max) Super Retina XDR OLED. The casing of the phone is “Textured matt glass and stainless-steel design”. Just like the iPhone 11 the iPhone 11 Pro comes with the new A13 Bionic chip.

The iPhone 11 Pro has all the new features that the iPhone 11 has and has 4 more hours of
battery life compared to the iPhone XS. Unfortunately there is no 3D touch found on this device meaning its looking like it’s the end of the road for this technology. The iPhone 11’s does have Haptic feedback, but this does not feel the same in my opinion.

As expected, the iPhone 11 has a similar price scheme to the iPhone X and XS. Costing you $999 or £1049 in the UK. The Max starts at $1099 or £1149.

The good news is that Apple are still selling the XR and the iPhone 8 for people who still prefer a home button (Face ID is better!!) or prefer a cheaper option. The bad news is that Apples phones are still using Lightning instead of USB-C and (as was expected) no 5G capability.

Anyway, thanks for reading my small write up and thoughts on the new iPhone range, check out the rest of my blog for more Apple and check out my website to see some of my other work.

Hands On WatchOS 6 - An Opinion

Good morning, Along with iOS 13, Apple announced WatchOS 6 at WWDC. The Apple Watch is one of my favorite Apple products. This year they announced several new features and below I talk about some of the new upcoming features with the Update. New Watch faces This year we see 5 new watch faces join us, These are Solar Dial, Gradient, California, Numeral Duo / Mono and Modular compact. My personal favorite watch face to use is the Infograph modular. It’s so useful being able to see this much information all from my wrist and I use it all the time because of that I can see the Modular compact being the most useful for me out of the new watch faces. This new face allows either an analogue or digital clock along with 2 circular complications and one big complication at the bottom that is similar to the one of the Infograph modular. For those of you who love to simply look at the time on your wrist the Gradient and Numerals Duo / Mono will be great for you. They both only te...

My First 10 parkruns at 10 different parkruns.

This post looks better on Kyle Wilkinson Online - Check It out here ->   https://www.kylewilkinsononline.com/post/my-first-10-parkruns-at-10-different-parkruns This week I’m writing a slightly different post. It’s all about parkrun, if you haven’t already heard of it it’s where you complete a 5K organized timed run for free and last year I finally completed my first 10, at 10 different locations. This little post is my journey on my first 10 parkruns. 1.       Blackpool (32:35) I actually did my first parkrun all the way back in 2017 in what the most northern parkrun is currently I have done. I got a time of 32:35 and the main reason I did it was to prove a point. You do not need to buy special clothes to do running. So yes, I wore a T-shirt and a pair of black jeans whilst doing this run. I didn’t think it was too bad. The biggest irony of it is since this I have in fact purchased running shoes, a pair of shorts and a running t-shirt....

iOS 13 - Hands on! (An opinion)

Good evening,  This is my hands on write up of iOS 13. At the moment I have iOS 13 Developer Beta 01 installed on my iPhone X and have been running it for about a week and a half, First let’s look at the key new features. You can check out my gallery of screenshots at the bottom of the post. Dark Mode The one everyone has been asking for, In my opinion dark mode took so long to arrive because of Apples key eye to detail. Every screen, every button and every character has been redesigned and optimized to look its best for the greatest mobile operating system in the world. As you can see in the pictures below the dark mode is applied system wide and can be easily configured to come on automatically with sunset and sunrise or it can be manually triggered in the control center in the same place as you would for Night Shift or True Tone. Reminders Reminders was completely rebuilt from the ground up! With a new more organized home screen. The app automatically groups y...
